Who I Am
The Tall Poppy, which is to say me, is a girl differentiated from the others only by being smarter, faster, and more discerning. Otherwise I am just like the rest of you. I live in Silicon Valley with my perfectly geeky, thoughtful, crazy guy; the Master Control Boyfriend, and my perfectly furry, lazy cat, the Mental Organism Designed Only for Petting. I've been faux-blogging on livejournal for years and finally decided it was time for the real thing.
What's Up With This "Tall Poppy" Thing?
Tall Poppy Syndrome is, depending on who you ask, a phenomenon in which presumptuous people try to live above their station (socially, economically, or what have you) and are rightfully struck down, or it's a reflection of the jealous attitudes of average people, and their desire to see others brought even with them in a sort of Harrison Bergeronesque leveling. You might presume, and reasonably, that I come down on one side or the other of this debate, but the truth is I can see both sides of this particular coin. Let's just say that I selected the name of my blog because of my interest in the question of how we sort ourselves and the heirarchies, named and unnamed, that we use to shape our interactions. (Oh, and Jante Law is a related idea, if you were wondering)
